The Great Utah Shake Out

A message from Mayor Corroon

Dear Team,

Eighty percent of Utahns live or work along the Wasatch Fault. A major earthquake occurs here every 350-400 years; it’s been 350 years since the last one.

On the morning of Tuesday, April 17, 2012, Utah will take part in one of the largest earthquake emergency drills conducted in our nation, the Great Utah ShakeOut. I encourage all Salt Lake County employees to get involved in this drill and learn what you can do to get prepared. Over the next few weeks Salt Lake County Emergency Services will post things you and your family can do to prepare for the big one.

On April 17th all county offices will conduct a Drop, Cover and Hold exercise. I know we’re all very busy, but I encourage managers and supervisors to review emergency operation plans with your employees.

I also urge everyone to sign up for the Great Utah ShakeOut.

If we do what we can to get ready now, we’ll be better prepared when disaster strikes.

Thank you,
Peter
