Posting on SLCo Homepage
This committee has been given the authority to implement solutions that provide consistent and structured approaches to meet the County’s communication needs. The objective of this committee is to create and sustain a one-stop-shop for important information and to streamline communication strategies to more effectively communicate with employees and the public. To that end, this page provides guidelines as established by this committee to:
- Post information to the homepage and e-Connect slider
- Use social media feeds
- Post press releases
Featured Services:
On the far left Navigation Bar of www.slco.org, 3 county services are promoted which will rotate monthly. Timely services will be given priority.
Someone from your organization should have provided a Top 5 list of services to Vicki Bourns along with a link for more information on your website.
This list will be a working document and can be added to by emailing Don Semon.
Slider:
The SLCo home page and eConnect home page will now be limited to 5 spotlights at a time with one spotlight showing per slide. To streamline the process of adding a feature, an online form enables picture uploads and outlining proposed dates to run on the slider.
The form can be found at;
- Login using county userID and password.
- Questions about the slider can be directed to Don Semon
- The same slider populates www.slco.org and www.econnect.slco.org
Social Media Feeds:
To provide a timely, updated view of what Salt Lake County is doing, we have created a Social Media Feed displayed in the lower left hand side of the redesigned SLCo home page. Currently, the feed is built to pull from Twitter and Wordpress (Facebook is not an option because it does not have an RSS function).
To have your Twitter or blogs included on the home page redesign, the representative responsible for social media content from your agency will need to read and sign the Social Media Guidelines Memorandum of Understanding and submit a copy to Don Semon.
Once your agency has completed the Social Media MOU, your Twitter or Wordpress account will be added to the feed. Please note that only posts that are tagged or categorized with #SLCO will show up on the County home Page.
News Releases:
News Releases will also be featured on the County home page, now on the lower right hand side next to the Social Media Feed. Once a News Release has been posted on the News page, it will also automatically appear on the county home page News Releases feed.
How to Post Press Releases: The representative from your agency responsible for posting Press Releases to the County website has access to the newsSLCO folder on Collage.
- Within the newsSLCO folder, select the current year, then the appropriate folder for your agency (adminServices, css, elected, humanServices, or pw).
- Select “New Document”, name it in YYYYmmdd format, and add a Headline, Contact Information, and Content.
- Remember to copy and paste into Notepad to take out any formatting.
- Also choose “Metadata” at the top in order to add a brief summary in the description field. This is the "teaser" line that shows beneath the headline in the Press Release listings
Complete New Release instructions can be found on the Collage Help site. If you have addition questions about how to make edits in Collage, email webadmin@slco.org for additional training.
